So you’re thinking of doing a photo session or have booked a photo session, do you feel like you have a ton of questions? Or do you kind of feel like you have no questions but you should? That “you don’t know what you don’t know” feeling?

Let me tell you, both are totally normal. Especially if you have never had a professional photography session done before!

You’ve come to the right place to find the answer to your most burning questions below!

  • I schedule my sessions for 1.5-2 hours. Whether it is a family, couple, or senior session this is ample time for a full gallery of images.

  • The best time for any outdoor photo session is what is referred to as “golden hour.” For all of you non-photographers, that is simply the 1-2 hours after sunrise or prior to sunset. This is when the light is the most flattering and will give that dreamy golden glow.

  • Wherever you choose! If you have a favorite place we can definitely discuss having your photo session there. If you aren’t sure of a location, I can offer you some suggestions. We can do an outdoor nature setting, a downtown setting, or even in your home.

  • The age old question! This could, and will be, a blog post on it’s own. The simple answer is to wear something you are comfortable and confident in. If you hate what you’re wearing, you won’t like the photos very much.

As far as coloring. Gone are the days where we want to be all matchy matchy, with everyone wearing the exact same color on top and bottom (Navy and khaki vibes anyone?). Instead, wear something that coordinates. If you are unsure, talk with your photographer and they should be able to offer suggestions.

  • Rather than leave you with one extra thing to add to your already packed to-do list, I’ll order any products you wish to have. I offer metal and canvas wall art, framed storyboards and prints, signature albums, and keepsake image boxes.

However you wish to decorate your home, I am here to guide you.

  • You can make the session as short as you want to. However, my retainer stays the same.

I do also hold what is referred to as “mini sessions” throughout the year.

  • A mini session is something that you probably hear from many photographers. It is essentially a smaller version of the regular session a photographer offers.

They are 10-20 minutes in length at a location and date of the photographer’s choosing.

They may or may not be themed for special occasions or holidays.

  • I will communicate with my clients in the days leading up to their photoshoot if the weather is forecasted to be bad. We will have to decide if we want to reschedule or move the photo session indoors/ to a covered space.

Rain and harsh winds are what effect photoshoots the most often. Clouds and snow make for extra dreamy photos!

  • I am mainly an outdoor, natural light photographer. At the time, I do not have a studio space. However, if this is something you are interested in, rental space can be used for your photoshoot!

In home photoshoots are also encouraged! We can take advantage of the natural light in your home to create beautiful images.

  • That’s okay! Honestly, that is childhood and we want to capture that! We will try for the smiling photos at the beginning of the session. Once we lose their attention a bit, we’ll let them play. Capturing those playful moments are, in my opinion, just as important as those “Christmas card-worthy” photos.

  • Embrace it! I am the same way. Most importantly just try to be yourself. Your photographer is there to guide you through posing. As a photographer of families, couples and seniors, I know that my clients are not models who know how to pose. You pay your photographer to know how to pose you!

  • Every photographer has a different turnaround time. For my clients, images are typically finished within 1-2 weeks of the session date. When your images are finished we will schedule a time to meet in person to view your beautiful images and order your products!

After about 4-6 weeks, I will have received all of your products. You will be amazed when you see them in person!
