Flat lays are my favorite way to start photographing your wedding day. But what exactly is a wedding flat lay?!
In a nutshell, it is a carefully curated and styled arrangement of wedding day details. It can include your jewelry, invitations, veil, flowers, textures, and so much more. The goal is to tell a visual story and capture the essence of your style and aesthetic of your wedding day.
I find it’s a beautiful way to preserve these small, but equally important, details of your day that might otherwise be overlooked.
You’ll want to make sure you structure your timeline in a way so that your photographer has enough time to capture all of these details. I always recommend at least an hour for your photographer to style and photograph your details.
And a time saving tip for you: place all of these details in a box or a bag the week of your wedding. When I arrive on your wedding day, all you have to do is point me to that. No need to run around collecting items, taking time away from hair and makeup. You sit back and relax!
Below is a list of items you could include.
Ring
Watch
Shoes
Neck tie / bow tie
Pocket square
Cuff links
Cologne
Rings
Necklace
Bracelet
Earrings
Perfume
Shoes
Garter
Stationary including two full invitation suites, menus, save the dates, etc.
Vows books
Personalized rings box (I love these from The Mrs. Box)
Bouquet & boutonniere
Extra flowers and greenery
Family heirlooms or antiques
Your “something borrowed, something blue”
Any other important personal items!
Clean your ring. Your ring will be photographed close up to show off its sparkle so you want to make sure it is extra sparkly!
Styling stems. Your florist can typically provide cut flowers and greenery for you for a nominal fee. Make sure to ask them a few months before the wedding so they have them on hand.
Wedding style. Let me know ahead of time the color scheme and aesthetic you have planned, typically shared in your final questionnaire. I love sourcing items for your flat lays that match your style and color scheme, from ring boxes to dishes and antique items.
